about the project
PNC Bank is beginning to implement Virtual Banker machines at select locations which allow clients to engage in many of the same services that they would have upon meeting with a banker in person within a branch, in addition to providing traditional ATM functionality.
Since this innovative service is so new, they needed animated welcome screens created that would clearly and simply explain the service, in addition to emphasizing it as particularly secure and convenient. They also needed accompanying in-store signage for the bank branches where these machines would be used. The signage needed to differentiate these machines from typical ATMs and aid in customers' understanding of the new service.
design challenges
The group wanted to make sure there was an image of a Virtual Banker displayed on the welcome screens and their accompanying signage so that the client would clearly understand they can have a live interaction with a real person. I also needed to include a static ad along the bottom of the welcome screen without it becoming too visually busy and detracting from their overall message.
design solutions
I created a clean, simple visual for the overall look of the welcome screens. The main text and icons would animate, sliding in from the right side of the screen, while a video of a Virtual Banker interacting with a client through the ATM screen would play to illustrate the services offered at this machine.
The ad at the bottom of the screen was designed to be equally clean and simple, in a darker grey that contrasts well with the light grey and orange of the main screen. This clearly sets the content apart and allows the client to easily navigate the machine and its services.
I then utilized the same design elements from the screens themselves for the signage that would direct customers to the machine, so it would be obvious that all of these go together.
